Like a network of veins, rivers run through the continents all over the world, connecting the land with the expanse of the oceans. The ecological system of the Elbe, the third largest and - at the same time - most beautiful stream of Central Europe, is the focus of the Elbe Aquarium Wittenberge. From the spring up to the mouth of the river, the characteristic aquatic habitats and its inhabitants are presented and set into inter-relation to the changing features of the landscape.
 
   
 
Right situated upon the hugest river of Northern Europe the town of Wittenberge is going to house an Elbe-Atlantic-Aquarium of the newest generation. The visitors will be taken to a fantastic and unknown world. They will experience quite unusual perspectives and will be enabled to follow the fish route: Starting at the Elbe spring down to its mouth, then going further into the wide Atlantic Ocean and the Sargasso Sea, the cradle of a large number of fish species. Within the enormous catchment area of the Elbe river the Elbe-Atlantic-Aquarium will be unique and become the most important meeting place in the field of natural tourism for all visitors to the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of the Elbe River Landscape. Besides the planned theme park fields such as environmental education, Elbe research as well as innovative environmental technology are going to be covered. By carrying out this project the town of Wittenberge will be given a new forward-looking trademark and a symbol, a unique first-class selling point.
