The
realisation of the Elbe-Atlantic-Aquarium will probably generate synergy
effects. It may become the initial start for the following institutions
and operations:
Research/Science
Since
the opening-up of the inner-German border, the Elbe is in the focus of
the particular interest of international, systematic ecological research.
Scientific issues in the areas of
species- and biotope protection, water quality, renaturation of waters
and high-water protection are in the foreground. The unavoidable new orientation
in the field of protection of flooded meadows and international sea protection
creates a continuously increasing requirement for respective institutions.
It is thus feasible to have a direct linkage of offices of governmental
authorities, nature reserve organisations, as well as university outlets
focussing on research activities in the field of outdoor ecology or fishery
ecological issues.
Nature Tourism
As
early as now, the economic net product through tourism is high in the
catchment area of the Elbe. In connection with the Elbe- Atlantic-Aquarium,
there are the options of organised boat tours to farther destinations
along the river Elbe, or short-term boat tours with the noiseless solar-driven
boats under professional guidance (such as In the realm of the
beaver, Fish shoals via echo depth sounder, e.g.).

In
addition, the visitor of the aquarium has a choice of bus tours to Rühstädt
European stork village, to the Lenzen castle Ecological Centre of the
Flood-plain Woods of the Lenzener Aue as well as a Prignitz Tour.
(Hanseatic city of Perleberg, seat of the bishop at Havelberg
and thermal spa Bad Wilsnack). Already in the foyer of the aquarium,
large dimensioned screens shall promote these destinations. You can easily
reach by foot the look-out towers located on the peninsula opposite to the
aquarium, as well as the old city. |
