The history is unusual. When looking for new perspectives for the city of Wittenberge, a small circle of active, local people came together in 1998, united by the firm intention to become engaged for the interests of the region and to use the advantages of the location of this city at the Elbe.

A team of completely different persons but with supplemental skills was established, which started to pursue the project Elbe-Atlantic-Aquarium with a high degree of engagement. After information excursions to aquariums in several countries in Europe and overseas, the group developed a first concept in 2000, ordered a feasibility study under the management of the city of Wittenberge and founded the Genesis GmbH. The acquisition of the site was finally concluded after the clarification of difficult ownership conditions at the beginning of 2002. Since that time, work is being carried out towards the realisation of the contextual concept and the acquisition of funds.
